6 Tips for CNAs to Live a Healthy and Purposeful Lifestyle

No matter if you are working full time or enrolled in CNA certification training programs, you are boaund to spend most of your time in the care of other people. But in order to do that, they need to care for themselves too. If you are a CNA or a Certified Nursing assistant, you might be aware of hard it is to find some me-time to keep yourself in a healthy condition. But if you fail to look after yourself, you might stress yourself out and be gloomy all day, or maybe worse like unhealthy or sick. You can keep yourself healthy and purposeful by following the steps below.

  1. Stay hydrated at all times

First things first, ensure that you are drinking enough water. When you are dehydrated, you become lethargic which can trouble you in focusing and give you unnecessary headaches. You must drink 48 ounces of water every day. You can also customize it on the basis of your body type and routine.

  1. Have a balanced diet

Then, ensure that you are consuming proper and healthy meals. Consume enough fruits and veggies and always stock up on foods which are high in nutrients such as protein and fiber. Keep yourself away from sugars, fats, and overeating. Following a balanced diet will help you feel good.

  1. Get plenty of sleep

Ensure that you get enough sleep. When you are sleep deprived, you can gain a lot of weight, lose focus and become lethargic and depressed. Get about 8 hours of sleep every night, or maybe even more than that. Ensure that you are investing some time to get some good rest.

  1. Follow the foot care regime

CNAs are bound to be on their feet at all times, this is why foot care is of utmost importance. Ensure that you wear comfortable shoes that do not pinch your feet, give you blisters or cause any kind of discomfort to your feet. It is also considered a good practice to keep the blood flow circulated to your feet. Massage them whenever you have the time and keep changing your position every now and then while sitting or standing.

  1. Look after your back as well

Standing for prolonged periods of time can also hurt your back. Apply a hot water bag or an ice pack on your back to prevent it from getting sore. You can also take ibuprofen for some relief. Also, exercise every day and maintain good posture to keep your body stretched out. Be extra careful while lifting heavy objects so that you wouldn’t end up hurting yourself.

  1. Relax by all means

Try to keep yourself away from stress. Yes, stress can make you feel awful but it can also affect your immune system and cause other health problems. Invest some time in doing some activities that calm you down like reading, exercising or meditating. If you feel overwhelmed, take some deep breaths and thinking of something joyous at the same time.
